A page encoded in UTF-16 will have garbage produced in the status bar when
hovering over a link on the page. It should show the relevant URL. Test case coming.

Confirmed using FizzillaCFM/2002091014 on 10.1.5. I see Chinese characters
instead of javascript:void().

This will probably end up at Internationalization, so sending it there.

Has this bug accidentally been fixed? It works fine in newer 1.2a builds (this
with 2002101408 on Jagwire).

Yes, looks like fixed - Display as "javascript:void()" in 10-14 trunk build but
still garbled in branch build.

What's the status of this bug?  The test page attached to this bug doesn't 
display reasonably with UTF-16, UTF-16(big) or UTF-16(little).  The only one 
with which a link actually appears is UTF-16(little): the rest of the page is an 
apparently random mix of Chinese characters and question marks, but the link 
appears as "link" and the status-bar text is correct.

I think both roy and me are off mozilla for more than 2 years. If these bugs are
still here now, I think the real stauts is 'won't fix'. If you want to reopen
it, please find a new owner for it first.

I've loaded the testcase into Firefox 1.0.1 and Mozilla 1.8b-0120 (Win2K).  Both 
detect the page as UTF-16 Big-Endian; both display correctly; and both show the 
link text in the status bar correctly.  Compare to comment 7, when I was testing 
with a 1.8a3 build back in July, where I was encountering obvious problems.
