Steps to reproduce:
Open a new tab with ctrl-t, type "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" in the URL bar.
Actual results:
Firefox slows down as it is typed, and crashes if it is not deleted. If there is a typo in the phrase, it will speed back up and normalize.
Expected results:
It should have kept on typing and not crash.

I suspect this has something to do with someone forgetting to remove a test feature in code.

In your screen recording, you have a search history item for the term "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" over and over again. In bug 1682434, we fixed an issue where Firefox would hang when very long search history results were matched. That issue is fixed in Firefox 86 and should be uplifted to Firefox 85. I see from your bug report that you're on Firefox 84. I'm going to close this bug as a duplicate. Please reopen it if you still have this issue in Firefox 85.
