Steps to reproduce:
After i updated my stable thunderbird release in mid Dezember, it now freeze periodacally.
No respond in main window, calender, mail composer etc.
Actual results:
The window does not turn white and windows os does not say it would not respond, but inside of thunderbird nothing happens. If i wait an undefinied time of minutes it works again until its not work and so on.
If i restart Thunderbird it works right away but freezes after time x.
Upgrade to 85b2 did not resolved the problem.
Hardware acceleration deactivation did not resolved the problem
remove addons did not resolve the problem
CPU is running vom 0.9% to 5% but no high load.
HDD usage on startup goes up to 40mb/s but after that it declines.
Windows 10
no changes in antivirus software.
Expected results:
Thunderbird responds every time.

Please start Windows' safe mode with networking enabled
- win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird
Does problem reduce or go away?

I had Avira System Speedup installed. With it it was really really worse.
After i wrote the Bug i recalled that it could be like an av software.
So i tried to remove it.
Since then it got better but problem still exists.
Intrestingly Thunderbird cpu usage peaks to 15% sometimes in idle.
I have switched to thunderbird safe mode and will monitor it the next days

With safe mode no problems.
With safe mode off problems but i have no extra addons installed. Does the safe mode deactivate things beside addons?

Safe mode temporarily disables add-ons (extensions and themes), turns off hardware acceleration (HWA) and certain other features, and ignores some customizations, such as CSS.
To test whether HWA is the issue, start thunderbird normally, open options, type "accel", uncheck Use hardware acceleration, and restart Thunderbird.

For what it is worth, there's a Firefox start up hang being discussed in bug 1689032. The symptoms here are similar, and the issue involved networking so presumably Thunderbird could also be affected.
