Steps to reproduce:
when I open Thunderbird first thing in the morning, it opens and then displays the word searching in the bottom left-hand corner of the window next to the online icon. It will do this for about five minutes before it starts to download new messages from overnight.
I am guessing that this is because I have on all of my accounts "check for new messages every "five" minutes".
The question is why is this happening when I also have checked for new messages at start-up selected.
It seems like after recent upgrades the check for new messages at start-up doesn't seem to be having the same effect as it did with old versions of Thunderbird.
I can press the icon button for "get all new messages" and they download instantly without any problems or if I wait five minutes they also download without any problems. It is just like the selection "check for new messages at start-up" in the service settings is not being recognised.
I am using unified folder view if this helps track down the issue
Actual results:
The program opens and will not download any new messages of five minutes automatic
Expected results:
I would expect because I have in the account settings, server section the option "check for new messages at start-up" selected that the messages would download automatically straight away

Does the status bar show "search folder"?
Then this is probably Bug 1098069 - Constant Freezing for minutes at a time with “Searching Folder...” in status bar, busy spinner, and "(Not Responding)" in title bar for unified folder. Workaround unselect the checkbox "Search Online" in unified folder properties.
It just says searching.... bottom left-hand side of the entire window right next to the online status icon. I could send you an image if I could attach it ? this has nothing to do with searching the folders in the unified inbox this is to do with when you open the program. Thank you Michael
