RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1679182

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:84.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/84.0

Steps to reproduce:

*** This is an intermittent bug ***
Ubuntu Linux 20.10
84.0.2 (64-bit) Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0

  • I think this started with the first Firefox 84 release; I don't think I saw it before December.
    Window Manager: twm (with X - never tried Wayland).
    I have 20 windows with ~80 tabs (I have reduced this from ~150 windows)
  • I have had titles with Unicode characters in the past; not sure about now.

** Start Firefox without specifying a profile **
select my profile in the profile manager.

Actual results:

Sometimes (> 50% on a fresh login/boot) when I start up Firefox all the windows open with the title "Mozilla Firefox" and this does not change when I add, change or remove windows or tabs.

Starting Firefox on the command line I see 2 messages:
###!!! [Child][RunMessage] Error: Channel closing: too late to send/recv, messages will be lost

###!!! [Parent][RunMessage] Error: Channel closing: too late to send/recv, messages will be lost

  • I see these messages, which are new to me, whether the window titles are correct or not.

Expected results:

Each Firefox window should have a title that relates to the content of the displayed tab.

Specifying a profile on the command line seems to solve the issue.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

I agree that this is a duplicate.

Since I appear to have an odd locale I record it here:

locale

LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_GB
LC_CTYPE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

I can't remember why LANGUAGE is different from everything else.
