Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530
when I boot the computer, everything seems normal until I load mozilla. When I
load mozilla the hard drive starts makeing the normal sounds it makes when
loading a program (churning read/write sounds) but they do not stop when it is
done loading. Sometimes this will stop several hours after Mozilla is closed
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Boot computer
2.Connect to Internet
3.Load Mozilla
Actual Results:
hard drive churns and churns. happens in all combonations of startup programs
Expected Results:
it should load the browser and then the harddrive should stop reading/writeing
system goes low on resources sometimes when this is happening and I get a white
box asking to close various programs to free system resources
Reporter: Can you give us more info on your hardware? I'd specifically like to
know the following things:
- Type of hard drive hardware in use and whether or not DMA is enabled for this
hard drive
- Whether the results can be duplicated with *no* startup programs running (i.e.
checkbox cleared in msconfig)
- Amount of RAM used and available, and amount of pagefile used and available
(dxdiag.exe)
- Amount of free hard disk space
I think your hardware may be the limiting factor. Otherwise, can you download
the latest Talkback-enabled nightly build of Mozilla and see if the problem
still occurs?
Oh, and also, run the System Resource Meter and tell me what your system
resource is at before and after Mozilla loads.

I have found this to be a problem with WinGate and mozilla, I fully uninstalled
wingate and removed all referances to it and the problem stopped
-27GB drive on a seperate UDMA controller card
-Problem still occurs with startup items turned off
-384MB or ram, amount available varied but gradually went down towards 0 (made
it to 0 once or twice) 400MB page file and again, varied usage but I never
looked at it when teh normal ram made it to 0
-free HDD space is ~10gb
oh, and CPU is always at 100%usage because of distributed.net but while this bug
was going on, the distributed client didnt submit any keys so im asuming the
100% came from the bug between wingate and mozilla
INVALID per comments that this is an isolated issue with WinGate.
If you find any more widespread compatibility problems that are reproducible on
any configuration file a new bug on WinGate compatibility.
