Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:84.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/84.0

Steps to reproduce:

perform a search using the search engine "Startpage (SSL)" in one of many browser tabs
observe results page appearing
restart firefox after update (Firefox update installation is managed by Ubuntu software update)
go to the tab with the search results

Actual results:

a new search form appears with empty entry field, results are lost

Expected results:

firefox should serve the results page as it was before restart from its cache.
This was the case in previous versions if the search was not too long ago.

Hi, I think you probably had Startpage (SSL) installed via an old add-on or maybe some obsolete option on addons.mozilla.org. Assuming I found the right item, I think this is a potential result of using POST actions on StartPage.

I would suggest that you remove that search engine, and install the StartPage add-on that they support: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/startpage-private-search/

I don't see why it would have started changing recently, unless it is something to do with the StartPage site. Here, when I restart after doing a search, the result is remembered, though if I reload the page it doesn't resubmit the search.

Moving across to session restore as this seems to be more a bug with restoring than the actual engine definition.
