Nightly 86.0a1 (2021-01-23) (64-Bit)
macOS 11.1

I noticed that in the Menu Bar, there is a new item to "Check for Updates...".
This opens the same info-window like the item "About Nightly" above of it. So this is a duplicate item, just only with other wording.

From my point of view the item "About Nightly" is correctly placed there like in all other Mac Applications. The new item "Check for Updates..." should be better placed in the Help section of the Menu Bar.

Please see the attached screenshots.

Thanks for considering this.

Putting a "check for updates" menuitem in the app menu is the most common location on macOS; it's the same thing most other apps do if they don't update via the apple store (e.g. VLC, zoom, Things, Opera, etc.) and comes first as the place to look in relevant web help articles (e.g. https://www.howtogeek.com/416434/how-to-keep-your-mac-and-apps-up-to-date/ ).

Yes, it opens the same window - the reason to add it is that we know that people sometimes feel they need to update Firefox and don't know how to do this short of going to the Mozilla website and downloading a new copy; adding an explicit menu item makes this more obvious. At the same time, we cannot just remove the "about" entry because obviously sometimes people want to check information like the version number and hiding that behind a "check for updates" item would also be confusing.

Ultimately, it's perhaps not natural to you because you know the "about" window always checks for updates, but that's not who the change is aimed at.

This isn't a bug as stated (the menu is not "in the wrong place"), so I'm going to close it as invalid.
