It depends on the "input mode".
Not affected mode:
MS-IME : taskbar indicates あ
Affected mode(probably more than this):
MS-IME : taskbar indicates _A
ATOK2016: taskbar indicates A or "あ"
Steps To reproduce:
- Open about:preferences#experimental. And enable "Address Bar: show results during IME composition"
- Focus address bar
- IME on, then input Japanese words. e.g. keypress "m" "o" "j" "i" "r" "a" key
Actual Results:
MS-IME: when taskbar indicates _A
moじら : The first 2 characters are committed, and the followings are under composition
ATOK2016: when taskbar indicates A
mojira : The first 2 characters are committed, and the followings are under composition
ATOK2016: when taskbar indicates あ
mおじら : The first character is committed, and the followings are under composition
Expected Results:
MS-IME: when taskbar indicates _A , ATOK2016: taskbar indicates A:
mojira : these characters are under composition
ATOK2016: when taskbar indicates あ
もじら : these characters are under composition

Yes, that's one of the reasons why it's disabled and an experiment, so one can enable it IF they find it useful, we don't expect this to be useful for Japanese as this time, also because the IME panel covers suggestions anyway. Is there any japanese layouts where this would work (no ime panel)?
Bug 1680801 was already filed to figure out a strategy, maybe an allowlist with combinations of OS and keyboard layout.
We have NO PLAN atm to just enable this pref, the choice is left to the user for now.
What do you mean by "taskbar", is that the IME panel?
Since I can't understand ideograms so easily, I'd really appreciate if you could explain it more thoroughfully, maybe also including a screenshot indicating the problem. We can probably involve Daisuke-san to help with this.

I agree, it is not useful.

*No candidate window pops up during expanding or shrinking a phrase to convert.
*ATOK allows you to specify the number of conversions before the candidate window appears.

Can US keyboards also switch to the _A mode? The context menu doesn't allow it AFAICT.

I could reproduce on ATOK for Mac Ver.31.2.0 as well.
I will take a look at this issue.
