Steps to reproduce:

I have lot of repeating tasks which pop-up in the Today Pane when in time, when tasks are done they are signed as completed and they disappeared next day from the Today Pane

Actual results:

since 78.6.1 already completed tasks pop-up again in the Today Pane as Incomplete Tasks. In the first days this were several hundreds of wrong shown 'incomplete' tasks.
Then I deleted all completed tasks in the folder 'Events and tasks/Tasks/Completed Tasks' and the next days everything was ok. When the next 'true new task' appeared and after done was signed as 'completed'the next day - or when Thunderbird was started new - appeared again as incomplete.

Expected results:

This is NOT my singular problem - many other users have the same one, see 'thunderbird-mail.de/forum'. Now we have 78.7.0 but the bug is still there. This is a really angry bug.

I'm on Debian. Thunderbird was just updated to 78.7 and now all my previously completed tasks now appear as uncompleted. There are hundreds of them. I downgraded Thunderbird to 78.5 and the completed tasks are back to normal. I have about 15 repeating tasks along with the occasional non-repeating task. If I'm reading my apt history log correctly the previous version on Debian was 78.6.0 so I guess we skipped 78.6.1. Whatever it was tasks was working fine on the previous version in Debian.

I should mention that this happens in both the today pane as well as the tasks tab.

I am also seeing this behavior. After upgrading to 78.7.0, all of my recurring tasks are marked is incomplete.

I manually checked four years' worth of repeating tasks hoping that it was a one-time error. Upon re-opening Thunderbird, they were all marked incomplete again. Examining the calendar data on the server shows that this is not the case.

Debian 10.7 amd64. Package is thunderbird, version is 1:78.7.0-1deb10u1. Downloaded and installed 2021-02-03. My previous version, which worked, was 1:78.4.2-1deb10u1 (self-reporting as 78.4.2). Downgrading fixed the issue, although it seems that my manipulating the tasks in the broken 78.7.0 instance caused it to record on the server that the tasks were no longer complete; I had to check them all off again.

The above versions should not be crossed out; I hadn't noticed the markdown styling. These should be 1:78.7.0-1~deb10u1 and 1:78.4.2-1~deb10u1.

I'm also seeing this; using a local calendar, completed recurring tasks reappear on restart.

Created a new calendar incase of corruption but problem continues.

I guess it's worth mentioning that a week or two ago I temporarily switched to Ubuntu and installed the PPA for Firefox ESR and Thunderbird Stable builds. I got the same behavior. I can't tell you which version it was except that it was the up to date stable version.

This should be bug 1686466
