Mozilla 1.0
When Forwarding As Attachment a message I have received in my Inbox, the
intended recipient receives two messages, my new forwarded one and (seemingly)
the original message that I forward.
Looking at the source, it appears that normally when composing a message,
Mozilla intends any occurence of 'From' at the start of a line.
However, when forwarding a message, Mozilla sometimes sends '>From' at the start
of a line of that forwarded message, which is interpreted by most mail readers
as a new message. Included is the source of one such message sent from Mozilla 1.0

if I correctly understand the describtion, the problem is caused by the line:
>From - Mon Sep 16 22:42:18 2002
which is not stripped out from the original message. I thing we have already
fixed that problem.
Can you give me the exact build ID of the Mozilla/Netscape you are using. Thanks

I *was* using release 1.0.0.2002053015
Mozilla release 1.1.0.2002082611 I can't reliably get to work at all, so I can't
check that the forward bug has been fixed.
For the interim I am using Netscape 7.0 [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT
5.1; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020823 Netscape/7.0], which admittedly ain't a
whole lot
better, but doesn't seem to have the same forward bug.

I have also seen the same problem with Netscape Build [Netscape 7.0
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020823
Netscape/7.0], and have included the offending part of the message below:

I attempted to reproduce this bug (Mozilla, 1.5 Final) and could not get a
message to be interpreted as two messages. I did this by:
- turning off format=flowed for sending mail
- composing a message to myself into which I pasted the source of another
message, including the "From " line
- receiving that message, noting that the "From " line had been stuffed with >
- forwarding that message to myself, twice, both as an attachment and inline
First time, messages arrived in Mozilla, no problem; second time, messages were
received in Pine on a Unix shell account, no problem. All received messages
arrived as expected, in one piece; the pasted "From " line maintained its ">"
prefix thru-out the process.
I think the key to this bug is this line from the original report:
> Mozilla sometimes sends '>From' at the start of a line of that forwarded
> message, which is interpreted by most mail readers as a new message.
I don't know whether this statement about "most mail readers" is true, or was
true, but it seems to me that any such mail reader is broken -- not Mozilla.
I therefore recommend this bug be resolved as Invalid.

Add "message/rfc822" in summary for ease of search.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
