Details

When set as the Default Mail application, Mozilla disables Microsoft Outlook
(The Microsoft Office component, Not Outlook Express) by renaming and replacing
MAPI32.dll. To start Outlook, MAPI32_moz_bak.dll must be renamed MAPI32.dll.
The same situation exists when using Novell Groupwise instead of Outlook.
Groupwise-Client does not start. After renaming the mapi32_moz_bak.dll to
mapi32.dll (Version date: 1996) Groupwise works fine.
Mozilla replaces the existing mapi32.dll only when it is not the smartDll. I
have described the scenario in detail in:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109362#c6
and please also check to find the smart Dll:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109362#c12

It will be a good idea to go through all the comments in bug #109362 to make
sure you can use multiple apps at the same time with Mozilla set as default mail
app.

A similiar problem occurs with Word Perfect 8. If the option to use Mozilla as
the "default mail application" is chosen, the attempts to access the AAddress
Book in Word Perfect returns the error msg ".... This is usually due to
incorrect information in the registry or you do not have the correct version of
MAPI32.DLL installed. .......". Using the WP prg CD and choosing "Validate
files - Installs missing files and validates all prg files." restores the
mapi32.dll and all is well.
The reason you cannot access Address Book via MAPI is because not all the Simple
MAPI calls are implemented yet.

This happens to me too. Whenever I install mozilla/netscape with messenger, it
whacks my outlook 97 installation and I need to reinstall Outlook. Simply
opening the messenger portion will whack it again, causing me to need to
reinstall Outlook.

Not a pretty thing.
You do not need to reinstall Outlook, please look at the comment #2 above.
what´s the current status on this?
are you referring to status on AddressBook MAPI API implementation?
Re: comments 1 and 2 -- with Outlook98, renaming the Microsoft library to
MAPI32.DLL did not reestablish Outlook's usefulness.
Isn't this just a dupe of bug 109362?
So is this a dupe? Is this still a problem?
