User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 Galeon/1.2.6 (X11; Linux i686; U;) Gecko/20020827 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 Galeon/1.2.6 (X11; Linux i686; U;) Gecko/20020827 Using the rpms for Redhat 7.x from ftp.mozilla.org and upgrading, I lost javascript in Navigator. I can't, for instance, install a theme or report a bug on bugzilla. It's enabled in my prefs menu. Galeon, however, has no noticable problems with javascript. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Download Redhat rpms from mozilla.org or a mirror 2.Upgrade 3.Launch Mozilla Actual Results: Can't change themes. Javascript isn't working. Expected Results: When upgrading, Don't change my prefs and insert things like blocking the status bar. Don't wipe out my themes. Don't kill javasript.

Reporter, did you uninstall Mozilla fully first? Upgrading-in-place isn't supported.

No, as you surmised I was trying to upgrade. I'll wipe it and try again now.

Appears to be working fine after a clean install. Sorry to bother you all.

Spoke too soon, I guess. Root has javascript but not user. I'm trying to figure out how to use the JavaScript Debugger thingie... The Javaconsole gave me this on searching bugzilla: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80040154 (NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED) [nsIDOMWindowInternal.sidebar]" nsresult: "0x80040154 (NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED)" location: "JS frame :: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/quicksearch.js :: go_to :: line 49" data: no] Any use?

try checking the permissions of the files. everything under the mozilla directory should be world-readable

Permissions appear to be fine, both in ~./mozilla and in the system. Everything is readable (except cert7.db, key3.db, and secmod.db in ~/.mozilla/default/*.slt/, all three of which I breifly made readable but to no effect). Keep in mind that galeon is working fine and reads the system files. So while I think its a good intuition to look at the permissions, I can't see the problem in /usr/lib/mozilla or anywhere else.

not able to reproduce using stub installer for 2/28- unique to rpms? installed as root, commenting this bug as user, able to change themes etc

Since over 1 month no answer from the reporter, so closing bug as wfm. If the bug exists in newer builds (1.4 final) then look for a similar bug or reopen this bug.
