User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0
Steps to reproduce:
Brought up Thunderbird, profile selector enabled.
Actual results:
The profile selector window would sometimes come up, pause and then crash - crash reports sent. When successful, was able to select profile (currently only one) and then try to bring up the mail UI. The mail UI would come up and be unresponsive(always).
Expected results:
Bring up Profile selector -> choose profile -> mail UI responsive.
I seem to be able to get around the problem right now using safe-mode. There shouldn't be any add-ons/Extensions, none shown a installed when running safe mode.
IMPORTANT: Attached file is more background info.

Additional Info:
Used safe-mode to sync all the Email accounts to the current state. I noticed a quirk(or bug?) in the process. If I exited Thunderbird before all syncing was done after initial setup, it would not complete by itself. All Email folders would show, but not be populated until you select the Email folder and then Thunderbird would download the Folder contents. The sync settings were set to automatically sync. I don't know if this is intended operation, but it is outside of this issue on this problem report(let me know if I need to make a separate report).
On completion of syncing, I tried 'un'safe-mode.. and still saw the behavior of lockup.. however on further study, I found it was not a full lock-up but an extreme slowing of the UI. On initial start up, the accounts show up on the left side panel.. however the accounts are all shown with black 'envelope' icons on the left. After almost 2 minutes of idle time, they switch to blue envelope icons. Interactions from opening/expanding an email account or "Thunderbird Menu"->? take 15 seconds to one minute on the UI.
safe-mode still shows normal/expected behavior.

Try disabling hardware acceleration. Preferences > type accel > uncheck the box and restart Thunderbird
I didn't find the setting under Preferences, however did turn off a hardware acceleration under:
Menu->Options->Options->Indexing->Use hardware acceleration when available.
Looks like that field is an 'orphan'.. it other notes on it suggested it should be under Advanced or Performance.
It did seem to eliminate the slow UI problem. I was able to run in 'non'safe-mode without waiting a long time for menu response.
Ok.. this solution generate a whole bunch of questions for me... I noticed that the title of the bug changed.. indicating the file nvwgf2umx.dll.. and looked at the crash info and 'stack', did a little 'exploring' found other problems related to some driver installations. The version of the DLL on my machine is 23.21.13.8908. Question: Are there known problems with this version? I saw notes of people backing up to a previous version of the drivers to fix problems. The copyright on this driver is dated 2018. I could try to go to a prev version or find if there is an update.
I do need to run the Nvidia drivers - the machine is a higher end notebook, driving 3 monitors (got a little spoiled by running a desktop extended across multi-monitors on a Silly Graphics machine (SGI).

Correct - in Windows preferences is under Options.

Those describe Pre-version 78.

Hard to say - there's not a central place where driver version compatibility are tracked. You're kind of on your own.

Bruce, how is version 91?
Running 91.2.1 and it is not demonstrating this problem.
However found a different one under 91.2.1 - probably unrelated. I thought I had entered it, but it doesn't show up in my 'Dashboard'.. so I guess I had a senior moment. Got to find my notes and I'll enter the one for 91.2.1.
