Steps to reproduce:
Have a number of tabs open, get new emails, and remove some of the new emails received. Sorry to be vague here - I haven't been able to reliably reproduce it. Sometimes it doesn't occur, and if I restart TB before getting emails then it has never occurred. I have always been using tabs and this is a bug I encounter only after ver 60.
Actual results:
Some of the previously opened tabs would keep shifting to another email when other emails are shift-deleted, even though the deleted mail is not the one shown in the tab. Not all the tabs would shift. Sometimes one and sometimes multiple ones. See the rightmost two tabs in screenshot.mov. Also attached are the before and after session.json files where you can see the inbox indexes being altered.
Expected results:
None of the tabs should have shifted.
Hello, is there any update on this? Please let me know if I am doing something stupid on my side.

No bug has been confirmed as yet.
There is a setting in Thunderbird to close tabs of deleted messages in the General preferences "Close message window/tab on move or delete".
If that isn't enable the next message will open in the window/tab when the previous one is deleted.
Hm I don't think it has to do with deleting a tabbed msg. As you can see from the video I was deleting another msg that was not tabbed, yet some of the tabbed ones got shifted by 1.
Not sure if this is related but another thing I noticed today was that msg numbering seems to have changed: last night I backed up my session.json knowing about this problem, and this morning after downloading new msgs I noticed that some of the tabs have shifted again. I closed TB, overwrote the current session.json with my backup, but that didn't solve the issue. Turns out that some of the msg numbers have changed. The same msg that was recorded as INBOX#N in my backup session.json from last night is now INBOX#N-1. Not sure if that is supposed to happen.

Didn't see the video being cautious not to download and open unknown zip files.

The .json files are Error Console messages?
If not, do you see any there?
The json files are the before and after versions of session.json where you can see the inbox indexes being altered.
I'll take a look at the error console next time when this happens.
Same thing happened again today. Posted new screen video on https://streamable.com/0qnomv where you can see the second tab from the right keeps shifting when msgs are deleted. Nothing showed up in the error console.
Oddly, I restarted TB and the problem stopped happening even if I keep deleting the new msgs.

I can't reproduce the issue using Thunderbird 91.3.2 on Windows 10 21H2.
Opened 14 message tabs, deleted other messages from my Inbox, and didn't see any tab switching.
