169298 - mesage in corner pops up saying i have mail click on mail icon on bottom left hand corner pulls up mail window but wont check the server

the icon in the bottom left lights up showing i have new mesages but clicking on
it will not retrieve mail  I must click on the upper left one "Get Msgs"

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open browser and wait for mail to have green arrow by it
2.click on that icon
3.mail browser opens but wont check mesages

Actual Results:  
no mail check

Expected Results:  
get mesgs from server

Are you using POP3?  If you are, and you've set 'Automatically download new
messages', you might be running into bug 166062, which is a regression.

Yes it is POP3 .
It's not set to download messages automaticly.
The other thing i noticed is that the icon wont "light" up untill i open the
email manager. Then the message will pop up in the lower right corner telling me
how many messages I have and like I said earlier the icon wont grab it and I
have to hit the button on the upper left side.

Brett, if it's POP3, and not set to download messages automatically, then this
is working by design.

The other part of this bug is bug 71105.

But your original report is concerning, "mail browser opens but wont check mesages".

If you're on POP3, and haven't selected 'Automatically download new messages',
this is working as expected with build 2002-10-03-08, Windows 2000.
