Note

  • When the user launches the stub installer and attempts to cancel the installation after the loading bar reaches 50%, he will notice that the "x" button has no action.

Affected versions

  • Nightly v87.0a1 2021-02-18-09-24-11

Affected platforms

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 7

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch the STUB installer.
    http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/2021/02/2021-02-18-09-24-11-mozilla-central/Firefox%20Installer.en-US.exe
  2. Wait for the loading bar to reach 50%.
  3. Click the "X" button.

Expected result

  • The Cancel confirmation modal is displayed.

Actual result

  • The button has no action.

Additional notes

  • Pressing the X button on Windows 7 installation will make a noise (like the noise of an invalid action); whereas in Windows 10, there is no sound.

This issue also occurs in the case of Firefox Release and Developer Edition (along with the Nightly stub) taken from the general download page:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/

This issue is most probably a regression because it has not been happening in the past, but it cannot be regressed because all the stub installers work the same (they download the build during the installation).

This is by design. At 60% (download end steps / total steps) the download has finished and the full installer is running in the background. It is not possible to interrupt the full installer, never has been to my knowledge. The progress bar was reworked in bug 1376597, before that the same thing should have happened around 66%.

The progress bar is completely controlled by the stub installer, so if you think this is a regression you should be able to check with an old stub installer, e.g. from 2017-10-01 (after bug 1376597 and its followups landed), or from 2020-04-01 (just before bug 1596812 reworked the UI completely) or 2020-05-01 (after bug 1596812 and its followups).

It doesn't seem to be a bug to me, please reopen if you disagree.
