Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:85.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/85.0

Steps to reproduce:

I'm using Firefox 85.0.1 64 bit on my Linux Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS, and I click a Save Image As button in the right click context menu, when clicking on an image in a webpage.

Actual results:

The image save menu by default opens a completely random folder that I might or might have not recently used in the operating system. I have to manually navigate to the folder I used last time.

Expected results:

Save menu should by default open the last folder I saved an image to last time.

It's annoying when I'm saving multiple files as an art reference (I'm an artist) and I have to navigate to my reference folder each time I want to save a new picture - instead of doing it once, and Firefox guessing that I probably want to keep saving pictures in that folder, like most browsers do.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Graphics: WebRender' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

I was not able to replicate this, I tried using WIndows10 64bit, MacOS 10.15 and Ubuntu 20 64bit.
With all versions of firefox Release 86, Beta87.0b5 and Nightly 88.0a1

In all cases the OS prompted me to save the image file into the "Downloads" folder.

I also checked folder handling on all these 3 OS: WIndows10 64bit, MacOS 10.15 and Ubuntu 20 64bit.
Using Firefox Release 86, Beta87.0b8 and Nightly 88.0a1. And i was able to change the download folder, and that information was kept for future downloads.

So for example i changed the folder from "Download" to a "Custom one", and that custom folder was saved for future downloads. I even closed firefox and launched firefox again and tried to download a picture again and the "custom" download folder i selected previously was kept as the primary option to save.

It seems this might be actually a problem with my version of Ubuntu, and not with Firefox, I noticed this behavior in "save as" windows in other programs. Probably no point in reopening, and considering my computer is a weird proprietary motherboard on a server from 2007, it'd probably be a waste of time to report it for Ubuntu.
