The thing that annoys me MOST with the edit controls (besides their current slow
speed), is than in EMPTY edit controls you are able to position the cursor in
one of two positions (in the far left of the control, and in a position one
'phantom' character to the right of this). You can move the cursor back and
forth between these two positions with the cursor keys, or by clicking on the
far right of the edit control you can move the cursor the right of the phantom
character (see attached picture). The correct behaviour of empty edit control
should only allow the cursor to be positioned in the far left of the control.
There should be no phantom character.
