User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

Steps to reproduce:

I did add my external calendar (nextcloud) with all the birthdays of my friends

Actual results:

I am getting a popup with birthday reminder every 5 min even for those that are weeks behind.
I am not able to 'close' the reminder or all at once cause the 'close' or 'close all' button is without any effect.
Also the 'snooze' function does not work. Choosing 4 hours ... still coming up in 5 Min.

Expected results:

any reminder that is showing a 'close' button should actually 'close' and should not come up again.

The marked buttons are without any effect

Which version?

Chris, can you still reproduce the behavior with the most recent release, Thunderbird 78.8.0?

Flags: needinfo?(chris)
Summary: calendar reminder popup → calendar reminder popup - can't dismiss reminder

I also see this problem and maybe I can provide some additional information.

  • Version 78.7.1 (latest version available via package manager on Linux Mint)
  • Google Calendar with the Caldav API (no addon).

The problem seems to be related to iCal invititations that contain several repetitive appointments. I also received an invitation with an update to the appointment, that only affected some of the included dates.

FWIW I have a lot of debug output in the error console. Maybe someone can verify that this should also be covered by the fix in 78.8.0? As it contains private data I only paste some parts with obvious error messages. If there is a way to provide the full errors in a private channel, let me know.

And later:

For some time the dismiss window comes up every ten minutes or so. Then suddenly it stops. I have no clear recipe to reproduce the issue.

I've upgraded to 78.10.0 (via mozilla ppa) and the issue persists. The window comes up every 10 minutes or so and I can only click the close icon.

It seems that it doesn't stop anymore - so the situation is quite annoying now. I also tried to remove an re-add the calendar. But there is no option to do that.

As I'm not sure, if that is related to the original problem: Should I open a new issue?

Opened a new issue with more information as the problem is probably different: bug 1709055

No response from report. This could be a duplicate of bug 1595332 and therefore be resolved in Thunderbird 91. Resolving as INCOMPLETE for now.

Whenever I get this situation it's 100% always because I accepted an invite from someone and, however they created the event, is somehow screwed up. To fix it (on GMail cal), I >always< have to log into my GMail via browser, find the event, and nuke it manually. It stops popping up after that 100%. It's not a TB issue IMHO. The past few times it's happened to me it's been events created by a Mac user but I don't know what mechanism they use to do so.

Sorry to poke this bug but I am seeing the opposite of this bug whilst testing on 94.0b1. By this I mean, I am trying to accept an invite from a known user at my org who, historically, has caused me the issue in this bug but this time I am trying to accept an invite from them and cannot. They are a Mac user. I am in the midst of asking them how they created the invite to further try and find out the root cause of the issue.

I think there's a more specific bug referring to what I am talking about (Not able to Accept and invite) but I cannot find it after searching through my emails. Does it jog anyone's memory? If not, I'll open a new bug. I have some Error Console output that might shed some light on the issue.

I created bug 1734639.
