Steps to reproduce:

OSX Big Sur 11.2.2 M1
Open youtube video, press play/pause button on keyboard (Macbook Air in my case), go back to YT main page, press play button (video runs in background, music hearable).

Actual results:

I was listening to my mediaplayer, saw a youtube video, paused my mediaplayer, watched the youtube video, hit back to YT main page (to leave it open for now), clicked play to listen to media player again but the video continued.

Expected results:

Shouldn't play.
Doesn't happen if you close the youtube tab.

When you say "hit back to YT main page", you mean you opened YT main page in a separate tab or window? And when you say "clicked play to listen to media player again", where did you click? On the play/pause button on the keyboard? In other words, the media keys?

I believe if the video which continued when you clicked play was still open in another tab, that it will remain the target of the media keys and so playing again is the expected behavior. Alastor, can you confirm?

hit back to yt main page = go to youtube main page in same tab as the one the video played in, just click 'back' button
clicked play again = the key on the keyboard thats play/pause button ont he macbook air aka F8

The video actually doesnt continue, it starts over in the background somewhere, test it yourself :) reproducible every time

I explain again:

1. open youtube website
2. click a video
3. hit pause/f8 button to stop video
4. hit back button to return to yt main page in the same tab
5. hit f8/play button --> you'll hear the video starting again playing in the background

Yes, I can confirm that on all platforms. The media element actually still exists after user went back the Youtube home page, because all navigation happening on Youtube are all in the same document. They just did some tricks to hide it, so I need to check why we didn't abandan the controllability for that element.

Yea it's not a major problem, but I thought I report it anyway, close if its too much hassle, I know some website are just doing naughty things.
