Steps to reproduce:

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Toolkit::Printing' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

It seems like "Duplex Printing" or Flip on Edge is going to be added in Firefox 87 via bug 1671702. Can you try if Firefox Beta works for you?
Tested with current beta (87.0b6) and neither works. I get the same behavior as with 86.0 release.

That usually means that we couldn't detect that your printer supports duplex.
Can you provide your cups version and your printer driver (ppd file)?
-
Cups version: 2.2.1
-
Printer drivers (PPD):
HP Color LaserJet 4600 v3010.107 Postscript (recommended)
RICOH_Aficio_MP_3351 RICOH Aficio MP 3351 Ricoh Aficio MP 3351 PS -
sm01@stt008:~$ lpoptions -p HP_color_LaserJet_4600 -l | grep -i duplex

Old print menu works fine with both PPD files

Hmm, so I couldn't reproduce this, here are the steps that I followed:
- Add a new printer from the CUPS interface, named
HP_color_LaserJet_4600
. - Select the same PPD as mentioned in comment 5 (
HP Color LaserJet 4600 v3010.107 Postscript (recommended)
).
After this, I had a printer in the list in the print dialog, as expected. But neither the Firefox print dialog nor the GTK print dialog allowed me to set other thing than "one-sided".
Then I went to the "Manage printer" interface in CUPS, and set the Duplex Unit: Installed
radio button, and saved the changes. After that the duplex options appear in Firefox, and the GTK select menu allows me to flip the page too...
Note that the duplex options in the print dialog are a bit hidden at the end of the "More settings" submenu. Other than that the only difference from comment 5 in my environment should be the CUPS version (2.3.3op2).
Reporter, just wanted to confirm that you didn't overlook the "More settings" menu somehow, where the Duplex printing option should be? On release it should be a checkbox, on Nightly it should actually allow you to select the long / short edge.
I double checked under «More settings» (in Spanish «Más ajustes») and no option is listed there (adding 2 images).
Instead, when using the old modal print dialog, the duplex is correctly displayed (adding 2 more images).
I'm going to check it with my Debian testing, that uses Cups 2.3.3 and will report here.

Tried with CUPS 2.3.3 and works perfect (see attached image).
Tested on Firefox 86 with the same PPD file (HPLIP 3.21.2, HP laserjet Postscript driver¹, file «hp-postscript-laserjet.ppd»), with CUPS 2.2.1 the new print menu does not show the duplex option, while CUPS 2.3.3 it does.
