Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:86.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/86.0

Steps to reproduce:

Wrote mail message in plain-text mode, with or without attachments, sent via POP server. Closed Thunderbird. Restarted Thunderbird.

Actual results:

Message appeared in both Draft and Sent folders. (This is inconsistent, occurs 15-20% of the time.)

Expected results:

Message should NOT reappear in the Draft folder after it has been sent.

This is an unpredictable issue that may require quite a bit of repetition to replicate. It has occurred on more than one machine; the one common thread is that all of the messages were in "draft" for long enough to autosave prior to sending, but even that has not been consistent (that is, sometimes autosaved messages did NOT reappear in Drafts upon restart).

who is the mail provider, and/or what server software

When was the last time you compacted the 'Draft' folder ?
Please right click on 'Drafts' folder and select 'compact' and report on whether items disappeared.

Multiple providers; this has occurred both on a private server and Gmail. Inconsistently, so I strongly suspect it has nothing to do with the off-site interface. The only "common factor" is that I use a POP send/receive cycle.

And as clarification, these are Tbird's on-local-machine draft and sent folders.

The drafts folder gets compacted twice a day. I have observed this behavior (once) after compacting the drafts folder, then immediately shutting down and restarting. I have also failed to observe it after the same: It's inconsistent. (Which is why it's most likely a minor bug.)

CEP are you still seeing this?

CEP are you still seeing this?

Indeterminate; due to illness and travel of late my use of Tbird has been maybe 10% of normal. It is not WORSE than it was, but my use has been so uncharacteristic/limited (since approximately 25 May) that I can't say that it's been resolved. I expect to have more "normal" usage over the next month to provide better data.

This is, unfortunately, the conundrum with difficult-to-reproduce conditions, whether "bugs" or anything else in science — absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, especially not in the face of prior evidence.

Does problem reproduce when using newer version (91 for example) with Help > Troubleshoot mode?
