User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:86.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/86.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Set widget.disable-dark-scrollbar to true in about:config
  2. Open youtube
  3. Set settings->appearance->dark-theme in the YouTube settings

Actual results:

The scrollbar changes the theme and becomes dark as it can be seen in the attached screenshot. The scrollbar is also different from the scrollbar on other sites like google.

Expected results:

The scrollbar on youtube shouldn't change and shouldn't be dark if the YouTube-appearance is dark. Instead it should look like on any other website.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Theme' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hi,
I am not able to replicate the issue. I've tried both on windows 10 pro and ubuntu 20.04

On the following versions:
Firefox Nightly 89.0a1 (2021-03-26)(64-bit),
Beta 88.0b3 (64-bit),
and Release 87 (64-bit)

Can you still reproduce? Does this issue occur in the latest nightly version of firefox? Here is a link from where you can download it: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/ I've attached a screenshot of what it looks like on my end (I don't see any difference having widget.disable-dark-scrollbar set to true or false though), can you send a screenshot of how it looks like in other websites, like google?

Thanks for the report.
Best regards, Clara.

I tested it again. Since firefox 87 I don't have this issue anymore. This issue can be closed. However, the setting widget.disable-dark-scrollbar doesn't seem to do anything since 87. I don't need this setting but I wonder whats the purpose of it if it doesn't work anymore. Maybe this is a bug.

I created back then a reddit post where I asked for help. I got quite some upvotes and many discussions what indicates that other people experienced this bug to. https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/m5rdau/how_to_prevent_youtube_from_changing_the_scrollbar/

Hi Aleks,
Thanks for confirming this issue no longer occurs on your end. I will close this issue as Works for me but we can definitely reopen it in case it reoccurs.

As for the pref itself, maybe it was deprecated by other pieces of code landed in our latest versions. I've updated the component in case the dev team from Toolkit > preferences knows more.

Please reopen this issue if it starts to reoccur, Thank you for all the info.
Best,
Clara

I have a similar problem on Ubuntu 21.04 using Firefox from the repos.
While visiting "https://www.seikowatches.com/" (for example) I still get the black scrollbar. I installed Firefox from Flathub and get exactly the same problem. Is there anything Ubuntu might be doing to block Firefox "instructions" on how to draw it's own application?

Now the strange part: on Linux Mint, Windows or macOS I DON'T get the black scrollbar as "widget.disable-dark-scrollbar = true" does it's job properly.

I can't really even understand why would the scrollbars (part of the browser) even be affected by the webpage's content. This just baffles me!!! Web designers can design their webpage as they please... just don't touch MY BROWSER!

I'm running Firefox 90.0 on Ubuntu and the Youtube webpage works fine as well (the page that motivated this bug report in the first place).
