This project is to localize the iOS App Store for key locales we would like to drive better download conversions. Will need copy localization (transcreation where applicable) and designers to update visual tiles for upload to app store.

Timeline: possible to deliver finals by 3/22 (for us to upload to app store by 3/23)?

@mloo, a few questions:
1). Your request consists of three parts, is this correct?
a). product description translation
b). Image localization (translation and image delivery)
c). Stitching screenshots (widgets) together and change colors. Do you have final English version as a source for comparison. There is a lot of relay of messages and we can't assume that graphic designer knows what you want precisely.

2). Text Content
a). Do you want to update row #9, describing what this request is for? Right now it is about Google and Android
b). What is in row #14? If there is no text, please remove it

a). there are Portuguese folders. Do you need those too? They are not listed in your requirement above.

In the past, none of the projects involving image creation can be delivered in less than a week. I don't think the deadline is realistic. We will try but I want to set the right expectation as you have lots of elements in this request.

@mloo, want to update you with the progress

2). Image with text:
The image text translation is done and can be found on the bottom of each of the file. However:
Question: There is an extra line missing in the translation request, Screen 4: Search the Way You Want. Since I can't open Sketch so I can't verify. Please confirm this is intended.

3). As you have confirmed, the images should be created for both iPhone and iPad. However, the widget and product shots are for iPhone, not iPad.
Question: can you clarify how many finished images you expect to deliver for each language? Because there is no "source" info to reference to, so there are lots of assumptions in this request.

4). The product screenshots and the Sketch source files are not for the same iPhones, one is from iPhone 8 and the Sketch is for iPhone 11 so the final images come distorted. Please provide the matching materials or the outcomes are not what you want to have delivered.

Hello everyone, just an update from loc:

  • All translations have been completed in Smartling and I have exported the app store image lines and passed them on to our production team. They have already started working on this. However, production noticed the source copy was missing one line that will be needed for the screens, and I am asking our linguists to provide this line asap (it is the line from screen 4: "Search the Way You Want".)

  • In terms of production, we do have the localized UI screens (see here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1IVP0KyV0XOgZo6KgWO1jL7C5SDI9bw8_) BUT they are provided for the wrong iphone format (iphone 8 proportions), and they do not match the format/size that we have in the source sketch file, because there we have iphone 11s, so the images are distorted and we need the correct ones.

  • It is also not clear if the stitching together of the widgets is only needed for the iPhone screens, and not for he Ipad. Please confirm this. If they are needed for iPad as well, then we would also need these localized UI screens in the right size.

thanks for the update! the localized UI screens need to be retaken and shared out. working on that now to get iPhone 11 screen size AND iPad screen sizes too. will inform you as soon as they are available

Thanks a lot, Mei! Keep me posted. We have already created all localized assets without the UI screens for now, so that we do not lose time on the in=layout review for this. As soon as we have the UI screens, we will swap them out in our working files.

Also, production noticed that we’re also missing localized UI screens for screens 3&8. In the case of 3 and 8 ,we do not have any UI screens at all, not even the ones in the wrong size, so please make sure to provide them. Our production team did mention that we do have number 8 from a previous project, if that has remained the same, we could use it (let us know), but we would then still nee number 3.

@mloo, since neither Julia nor I have Sketch software, we can't confirm/verify what you shared in the team drive matches the source files in the Sketch folder. To avoid further delays, it will be super helpful to indicate clearly what you expect in the delivery:

1). Images with localized text:
Notice that the messages you asked to translate is missing one string in the Sketch files.

  • iPad images - how many completed images to deliver per language.
  • iPhone images -how many completed images to deliver. Product images in which version, 8 or 11. Do you need both or just one. How many are expected per language

2). Composite images:
This requires stitching images together, changing image color(s).

  • How many images are expected per language.
  • Are there separate delivery for iPad and iPhone (and which version)?
  • In order to alter the color, please provide the source file, not png only.

3). Very important!!

  • Remove files that have nothing to do with the final delivery. This can cause a lot of confusions.
    lang/widget image sources (to change color and merge)
    /ipad product images
    /iphone product images
  • Ideally, there is a folder of English finished images for comparison, both the ones with text and the composite images (I avoid using the word "screenshots" as these are all manipulated, not a screenshot done with shortcut keys)

Projects like this needs clearer instructions as the project managers in the middle don't have access to all the files due to the software required.

here is an update:

RE: iphone - i've added iPhone 11 in-app product screenshots. a total of 9 images should be delivered.

RE: iPad - this is pending. i need to get the iPad sketch file for EN. this may not be available until next week. i added the iPad in-app product screenshots. but no action is required right now.

Based on the date, the files can be found in the same Source file folder under this structure but they are labeled as iPad, not iPhone :
source/in product screenshots/(locale code)/ipad/...

@mloo, could you remove all the old files if they are no longer used. Do NOT leave files that Mother Tongue doesn't need there, which clutters the space but cause confusions. Create separate folder for each type of delivery, iPad, iPhone, image alteration (merge, change color), and it would be ideal to have the English final images so we know what is expected in the final delivery. It's difficult to translate the description here into images as there is nothing we can reference to visually.

Thank you, we found the files! However, there are two missing items:

  • We are missing screen 3 altogether
  • We are missing a correct size screen 8

Could you please provide this when you get a chance?

Our production team is currently redoing the assets with the correct size screens and we will have it updated by tomorrow.

screen 3 = that's the one that needs to be stitched together using the various widget screenshots
screen 8 = is a fake website. can yyou ask your production team to take a look if it's editable in the Sketch file. If so, can your team localize the word "wander" and update the dates to the local language and indicate 2021.

The purpose of this review is getting any last input, implement feedback and deliver the final output in the requested format. This is for review only.

Also keep in mind the timezone differences. If the final approval comes on Friday morning PDT, the final delivery will be on Monday. The production team is based in the UK.

  • Is there a "TL;DR" translation for JP-JA, ES-ES and ES-MX ?
  • Also, character max is 4,000 (not 5,000). I've updated the EN to be below 4,000. This affects ES-ES and ES-MX. will you please update?

App Preview Screens:

  • 4_JP - the caption at the top looks like there is a period. Is that correct? None of the other captions have a period.
  • 2_TW - the in-product screenshot looks stretched out. Can you have the team review?

Thanks for this feedback, Mei! I will have the production team fix the 2 comments for the App Preview Screens, could you please confirm if this is all the feedback that we will receive and that we can create the final file packages after these 2 issues have been fixed?

I will also have the translations for the two Spanishes updated by the writers asap to conform to the 4000 character limit.

I will also get you the JP, ES, and ES MX translations of TL;DR! Just note this might be difficult to translate as its very likely there is no direct translation for this abbreviation here, but I will see what I can do!
