Mozilla MailNews crashes when selecting a mail message in the IMAP inbox after
startup. This problem did not occur prior to Mac OS X 10.2 upgrade. I have tried
deleting my IMAP message cache and my entire preferences folder to no avail.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start up Mozilla and Mail News. Messages in the inbox are displayed
2. Select any message, watch mozilla crash

Actual Results:
Mozilla crashed

Expected Results:
Mozilla should have displayed the contents of the message.
can you generate a stack trace ? (will find the URL on apple.com later...)

Rick, there are too many crash reports in that attachment. Please prune out all
but one.
Only one stack trace this time. Sorry about the last one.

Summary: crash when selecting an imap mail message [@ strcmp ] → crash when selecting an imap mail message on Mac OS X 10.2 [@ strcmp]
It all worked for me under 10.1.5 as well. It only crashes under 10.2.
I can repeat this bug on both OS X 10.2 and 10.2.1.
Marking confirmed per comment 8.

20021001 trunk build on MacOS X 10.2

The problem cannot be reproduced.
2002100203 appears to work for me using OSX 10.2.1. Did something get fixed?
marking WFM as per both last comments.

Is there any way we can reopen this bug? I just got a brand-new TiBook,
installed a clean version of MacOS X v10.2.1 on it, and lo-and-behold, this bug
has cropped up again.

Am running Moz build 2002101808 (1.2b)

I have no idea what fixed the bug before, and no idea how to work around this.

I can submit a new stacktrace if anyone wants it.

This bug came back for me as well. The story goes like this:
- Install Mozilla 1.2a on new TiBook with 10.2.1 with new profile. Mozilla
crashes with referenced stack trace when attempting to access the first message.
- Switch to Netscape 7. Able to access mail using previously created profile.
- Netscape 7 eventually crashes (due to other reasons) and wipes out mail
preferences.
- Install Mozilla 1.2b and try to access mail. Same crash as before.
- Go back to Netscape 7. Re-established preferences and access mail.
- Now switch to Mozilla 1.2b. Everthing seems to work fine.

So it seems that Mozilla is only exhibiting this crash when first attempting
to access mail on a new profile. Perhaps it doesn't have this problem once a
cache of headers is established?

FWIW: I am using Sun's IMAP server.
*** Bug 182301 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Here is the best workaround that I've found for the bug. Typically, previous
crashes put MailNews in a state where it can't even open without crashing.
Therefore,

1. File->New->Message to compose a new message.
2. Once the Message window is open, you can select Edit->Mail and News Preferences
3. Select/Remove the bad account
4. Create an NNTP account
5. Create an IMAP mail account

The IMAP mail account should now work. For some reason, it either doesn't occur
or occurs less frequently if there is another account created first.

Gary, what do you think?
strcmp doesn't appear in tb20014 topcrashers
and there are only 4 reports on talkback none of which match stack
TB46140289
TB46537203 TB48685575 (missing most of stack)
TB48827226 no stack
All the stacks doesn't seem to be relevant for Thunderbird. (1 Fx 2, 2 Fx 1.5, 1 Cam 1.0)

Since none of them match stack, and TB/Fx 1.5 and Camino 1.0 are EOL'ed, I would say resolve incomplete due to lack of information.
