The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::PDF Viewer' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.
Let me just add some hardware info, as this bug doesn’t show on a different machine.
CPU: i7-4770
MB: ASRock B85M-ITX (latest BIOS, v. 2.60
2 x 8 GB Kingston HyperX PC3-12800

Just to be clear: this has nothing to do with Firefox’s PDF viewer component. The crashes occur in different scenarios unrelated to the PDF viewer. I have changed that once already.

Hey pmo,
I tried reproducing this issue on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 88.0a1 (2021-03-21), beta 87.0 and release 86.0.1 but the crash doesn't occur for me and the sidebar is show and itmes are interactable.
Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Also a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .
I did test:
- Safe mode
- A fresh profile
- FF 87.0b9
Same result: instant crash.
Now also tested FF Nightly 88.0a1. Crash still happens if I open the sidebar and scroll down.

Hi pmo,
Can you please capture a performance profile using the FIrefox Profiler ? you can find it here: https://profiler.firefox.com/
Hi pmo,
I'm marking this as Resolved-Incomplete due to lack of response. If the issue is still reproducible with the latest Firefox version, feel free to reopen the bug with more information, such as the one performance profile capture requested in previous comment. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Jerónimo.
Sorry to be so late in responding. I’m afraid this was a freak coincidence where my machine’s PSU was actually the culprit. I can now reproduce the crash with a transcoding job in handbrake. Nothing happens with the same hardware in a different case with a different, more powerful PSU.
Please excuse the hassle.
