User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:86.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/86.0
Steps to reproduce:
The new Thunderbird 78 interface is nice, with the often-unused CC, BCC and Reply To fields no longer shown by default.
However, now that there are little buttons to enable these fields, there is no longer any convenient way to access those fields using the keyboard along.
Actual results:
Nothing. To access the CC and BCC fields, I had to the rather unwieldy
Alt-F
tab
enter
Furthermore, unfortunately, the keyboard shortcut is not consistent. If you have already enabled the CC field, the above keyboard shortcut doesn't work again, because the CC button disappears.
Expected results:
Call me old fashioned, but I think there should absolutely be a keyboard shortcut to access each input field. Especially for a dialog box that people use all day, everyday, like email writing. I think it should be very simple to restore this behaviour, or make it even easier than in previously was: Alt-C for CC, Alt-B for BCC, Alt-R for Reply To, perhaps?

Thanks John, definitely!
We're working on that, and the current iteration also includes access keys Alt+* for the fields:
- Bug 1667692 - Implement keyboard shortcuts to show and focus important address rows (To, CC, BCC): Ctrl+Shift+T, Ctrl+Shift+C, Ctrl+Shift+B (like gmail)
Related bugs:
- Bug 1616514 - Provide a way of showing Cc and Bcc addressing rows automatically when starting to write a message (esp. for enterprise)
- Bug 1694790 - Enable typing recipient type prefix words "to:", "cc:", and "bcc:" in address inputs to show and focus another address row
- Bug 1687432 - Provide no-brainer keyboard shortcut to easily move selected recipients between To/CC/BCC
You can leave a short comment on related bugs if you like them.
