User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:87.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/87.0

Steps to reproduce:

Under Windows 10, open Responsive Design Mode, close responsive design mode.

Actual results:

Mouse pointer disappears in RDM, both inside and outside Firefox. Closing RDM doesn't return the pointer, the only way to restore it is to go to Mouse options in Control panel, change and restore something minor to trigger the Apply button, and Apply.

Expected results:

Mouse pointer should revert to normal when exiting RDM.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'DevTools::Responsive Design Mode' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Thanks for the report!

I am trying to reproduce the bug on my machine (Win 10, FxNightly) but no luck.

Here is what I am doing

  1. Load google.com
  2. Open Firefox DevTools (e.g. press F10)
  3. Switch on the RDM mode by clicking on the "Responsive Design Mode" button in DevTools Toolbox toolbar
  4. Check mouse cursor (OK for me)
  5. Switch off the RDM mode by clicking on the "Responsive Design Mode" button in DevTools Toolbox toolbar
  6. Check mouse cursor (OK for me)

Am I following the right steps?
If not, can you please provide similar detailed steps describing what to do, thank you!

You might want to download and test on Nightly

Hi Honza,

I'm on Win 10 1809 (LTSC). I've figured out the problem, although I'd still call it a bug -- I changed my pointer to a red one for better visibility, and that's causing the problem, if I switch it back to default it works fine. I'd prefer to continue using it though. :)

For reference, it's a .cur file in my "My Pictures" folder.

Thanks for the update!

Can you please share the *.cur file and provide instructions how to use it in Windows?
I'll try to repro on my machine.

Thank you,
Honza

Sure, that's attached. Open the (old) Control Panel and search for 'mouse'. On Mouse Properties, click the Pointers tab, then click Browse towards the bottom on the right. Browse to the file and click Ok.

Sorry for the delay!

Thank you for the cursor file, I used it on my machine (now my cursor is nicely red) and tried to switch on/off the RDM mode. I can see the cursor all the time. Of course the cursor is changing as I am hovering over different page elements e.g. to a hand or resize cursor, but all just seem to be fine.

What else could be different in our config?
I am on Windows 10

Nicolas, can you please try this on your Windows machine, thank you.

I followed the steps from Comment 0, also tried the same steps with touch simulation enabled, tried to close RDM through the keyboard but I wasn't able to reproduce any issue. The cursor reappears as soon as I move it.

I see now I had Touch Simulation enabled, to the right of the user-agent. No problems without, but as soon as I switch Touch Simulation back on, it starts again. Sorry, I didn't even realise it was a option, I must have enabled it by mistake at some point. I don't actually need it, but obviously it's still a bug, for my at least.

I tried again, but I couldn't reproduce even when changing the touch simulation option.

Adam, what Firefox version are you using for testing?
Can you try Firefox Nightly (if not yet)

Or, what else could be different in our configs?

I've been using the custom cursor for about a week by now*, but I couldn't reproduce the problem.
I am closing this report, but please reopen if you can provide more information about how to reproduce the problem.

Thank you!
Honza

  • It's actually pretty cool, I might keep it :-)
