Environment:
Operating system: Windows 10 PRO x64
Firefox version: :Firefox Nightly 89.0a1 (2021-04-04)

Preconditions:
ETP set to STRICT
Clean profile

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Navigate to: https://www.247mahjong.com
  2. Observe the top right corner of the page

Expected Behavior:
The Facebook "Like" and "Share" buttons are shown

Actual Behavior:
The Facebook "Like" and "Share" buttons are not shown

Notes:

  • Not reproducible with ETP set to STANDARD.

Raul, these buttons come from Facebook, loaded in as iframes via https://connect.facebook.net. Isn't that what ETP is about, especially in strict mode? I would argue that the site would need to have self-served fallback icons/links if they want to display something there in case these iframes get blocked.

Blocks: tp-facebook
No longer blocks: tp-breakage

Albert: yes, sites sometimes provide their own versions, but web authors tend to just tell Facebook's SDK script where to render these widgets and let it do the work (or even a third-party script doing the same for multiple social media services, like AddThis).

Work is underway to come up with a solution for these kinds of blocked like/share buttons, as part of SmartBlock, so users can still decide whether they want to opt into using them on a site-by-site basis (with no privacy risk if they do not).
