In order to install glean, the system must either:

  • Support one of the available wheels.
  • Have Rust installed so that it can compile Glean from source.

However, some systems don't meet this demand, so we should make Glean an optional dependency and automatically disable telemetry if it isn't installed.

glean-sdk has been pypi-optional for as long as I can remember. I'm not sure which bug made the change, but we can close this out.
