When I visit pricewatch.com or LinuxCare.com or BBC.com, mozilla locks up my
laptop. This usually occurs when the page is initially loading. However, I have
been able to get pricewatch to load. As soon as I click a link it will lock.
There appears to be no network activity when the laptop locks up.

By locks up, I mean a hard lock. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace will not kill X (Usually
works), ctrl+A and ctrl+X do nothing either. I also tried Ctrl+Alt+F1, but that
does not work No keyboard actions or mouse actions are available. I have to
Power off the laptop to get freed.

At first I thought this was related to Bug #58937, so I tried removing the Flash
Plugin and visiting the site. I locked up. I then changed to 24bpp resolution
and tried again. I did not lock up. I then re-installed the flash plugin. Still
no lock.. Looks like the problem has something to do with running at 16bpp.. I
need 16bpp, because the Xshm driver used by Xine will not work on 24bpp..

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Set a KDE 2.2.2 Linux system to run on 16bpp ..
2.Visit www.pricewatch.com

Actual Results:  
Your desktop should lock. You will not be able to kill X windows or reboot with
Ctrl+ALT+DEL. Mouse and keyboard are locked... I have to turn the power off to
regain control of my laptop..


I have my Thinkpad i1200 loaded with Mandrake 8.2, running XFree86 4.02 and KDE
2.2.2 .. I have the SMI Lynx EM+ video adapter set at 16bpp resolution. This
adapater will support up to 24bpp .. 
 
I've duplicated this with Mozilla 1.0.1 and 1.1 .. I have the JRE 1.3.1, Flash
5.0, RealPlayer 7.0 and Acrobat 5.5 reader plugins installed. Using Pinball theme..

Sounds to me like an upstream bug in X, not necessarily with Mozilla.

This could be also a keyboard/mouse grab going crazing ..

Reporter, could you test with a new mozilla.org tarball for mozilla ?

I'm no longert running on KDE 2.2.2, so I can't say for sure if it is still a
problem for Mozilla 1.2.1 .. However, I'm not having this problem with KDE
3.0.5a and Mozilla 1.2.1 ...
