Build: 09/25 branch build OS: Simplified Chinese XP KingSoft Dictionary, which is a very popular English <-> Chinese dictionary software in China boundled with Legend machine, has an instant translation function. For example, when you type "see", it will give you a list of phrases beginning with "see", like "see a doctor, see a movie....". After highlight one of the phrases, the Chinese translation for the phrase will appear in a tooltip like window along with the phrase list. But this function is not working with gecko while it works well with IE, Notepad, Word... With Gecko, no prase is listed, no translation tooltip appears.

This is probably not a mozilla issue. If this issue is real important, we may need work with kingsoft engineer to figure out what cause the problem.

Does this problem happen only on Win XP? I don't have this problem on Windows 2000.
I can't bring up KingSoft IME after I switch to W2K. KingSoft is installed on XP on the same machine. Kat, do you see the phrase selection list after you type a word? The instant translation function is only initiated when one of the phrases is highlighted.

I have same results on WinXP-SC and Win2000-SC with this IME: No phrase selection list appears. Anther wrong behavior is: when I type some thing like "abc", then there is a red underline which is looks like we treat the string as a un-commit mode, I'm not quite sure whether it is correct or not. However, the mouse cursor is position at beginning of the string - before letter "a", this is something definitely wrong, I think the mouse corsor should be at the end of the input string - after letter "c".

As I said, phrase selection/translation works for me (from E to SC) on my Windows 2000/US (with JPN locale set).

The description of the bug led me to believe that this is a translation problem but after tallking with ylong, I realize that this is a problem in "English Composition Aid" program in KingSoft. Kingsoft provides something similar to "auto-complete" function when you start typing in English words. If you type "look", it may offer a number of choices such as "look forward to", "look in", "look over", "look out" for you to choose from so that you don't have to type all words or phrases. This function does not work for me at all under Win 2000/US with JPN locale set -- not for IE, Notepad, nor NN7/Mozilla.
Summary: Instant translation function on KingSoft Dictionary is not working with Gecko → Auto-complete feature for the English Composition Aid on KingSoft Dictionary is not working with Gecko

In the light of Kat's last comment, and the fact that this has not been escalated by the JV or AOL, should we continue to work on this issue? Suggest we lower it to P3/Enhancement or possibly WONTFIX (since this does not work for MSIE, either). Thoughts? Marking this as nsbeta1-/Topembed-, as this is not currently blocking a major embedding customer.

Please note that in Chinese locale, it DOES work with IE and Notepad.

Renominate, since this is one of IME requirements from JV, this is not so urgent, but better to be well prepared.

This also works with other components of the embedding application, like mail.

It is likely that Kingsoft does not test their product with non-IE, non-Windows environments. While researching this issue, we also need to contact Kingsoft and provide them with Mozilla/NS7 CDs.

Changing to topembed- because the it is no longer critical for the embedding customer. Reassigned to bobj for now...
