170962 - Having a "Enter name of file to save to..." dialog up and closing the mail window locks all windows

Closing the mail window, while you've got a "Enter name of file to save to..."
dialog open causes all windows to stop responding.  

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  Launch Mozilla into mail
2.  Open a browser window
3.  Navigate to http://www.mozilla.org/releases/
4.  Click on the "*try these*" | Microsoft Windows link.  The "Enter name of
file to save to..." window will open to promt you for the location to save the file.
5.  Close the Mail window.  
Actual Results:  
Mail window closes, all other windows stop responding.

Expected Results:  
Close the mail window and continue execution.

My mail connects to an Cyrus IMAP4 mail server.  Had enigmail plugin installed.
 Pinball theme.


I noticed this problem in 1.1 as well but never tried to reproduce it.  "End
Task" would kill the process and I could just kick it back off again.  In 1.2a,
when you do it, you can no longer launch the Mail window.  Launching into mail
window will just display the Mozilla splash then never load.  Attempting to kick
off "Mail and Newsgroups" from a Navigator window will create an unlabeled item
in the window list (e.g. "2.  "), but never will actually become visible. 

I tried to reinstall at this point, still happened.
Uninistall, reininstall.  Still happened.
Uninistall, delete mozilla directory in "Application Data" and "Program Files",
reinstall.  Fixed.

This worksforme with the Modern theme on build 2002-09-30-10.  Have you tried
this with Modern?  Does it still occur?  Sounds like you may have a corrupted
profile in the past (which I see you've deleted).

Bryan Mayland, is this bug still occurring for you?  I just tried to reproduce 
it with 1.3 (Pinball theme) and had no problem.

Stephen Donner, oops completely missed your comment.  

Mike Cowperthwaite, It does still do it in 1.3, but not as bad.  Same steps to
reproduce it, but now after it locks I can End Task on it and immediately
relaunch without a problem.  Mail window works fine once restarted.

I'm now running the Orbit theme with smallest icons if that makes any
difference.  Some other possibly useful information:
-- I have mozilla set to start Mail and News when I click the mozilla icon.
-- Again, I'm using an IMAP4 server.
-- I'm behind a squid proxy, but it locks both with it disabled or enabled.
-- I no longer have enigmail installed.
-- While the browser's "Enter name of file to save to..." is open, and I switch
back to Mail and News window, I can click messages in my inbox and they are
highlighted, but the content of the message is not displayed.  If I hit cancel
on the save dialog, the Mail window will "catch up", displaying the content of
every message I clicked on while the Save dialog was open (like a fast slideshow).

I guess the question is, is that Save dialog supposed to be task modal?  Let me
know if there is anything else I can help you with to help you reproduce the
problem.

I just played around with this a bit again in 1.7b-0402 and reproduced the 
symptom where the selected messages did not update into the preview pane.  
Interestingly, if I closed the mail window and then cancelled the dialog, the 
*browser* displayed the selected messages in slideshow-mode.  But I didn't get a 
hang.  This is with a POP server, Pinball theme, no other extensions.

The symptom of the mail window failing to preview messages -- which in fact is 
more widespread, hardly any action is possible in the mail window while the 
browser has the modal dialog open -- is very likely bug 150006, which itself is 
listed as a possible dupe of bug 74331.

The problem with hanging is probably bug 204006.
