  • about:config layers.acceleration.force-enabled=true
  • export MOZ_X11_EGL=1
  • about:config gfx.webrender.all= false (default)

Firefox 88.0.1 in Linux with binary Linux drivers [465.24.02] completely breaks. There's something crazy going one. I'm not sure if this configuration is supported and supposed to work, so if it's invalid, please close this bug report.

That's on a 2560x1440 monitor under X.org/XFCE/No compositing.

Yep, it's not supported. layers.acceleration.force-enabled is deprecated in favor of Webrender and MOZ_X11_EGL on prop. NVidia likely has some serious issues still to be figured out. I also don't think there are any advantages of this combination - Webrender on EGL at least gets partial damage, but accelerated layers doesn't benefit at all AFAIK.

There is already. If you open about:config you are being told exactly that. And using hidden env variables is even more "I know what I'm doing". Sorry, but there's no way that we can check for certain combinations of unsupported features on specific hardware/drivers. Not even remotely. There's just way too many of them.

Still thanks for caring to open bug - that's highly appreciated. Just for you to understand: there's maybe 2-3 people being really involved with the whole X11/EGL move, me being a free time volunteer. We try our best to make it production ready, but that only works by minimizing the matrix of possible setups. If you want to help bring this forward, please use Webrender and report bugs for that - that's the only backend we'll support going forward.
