Steps to reproduce:

Just working as normal in TB

Actual results:

It's constantly using 15-25% CPU usage even when it's idle & I'm doing other things not using TB, but it's open.

Expected results:

Should be less than 5% CPU

Thanks

Is this seen also in version 91?
And during this idle period, What do you see happening in tools > activity manager and tools > developer > error console

This started happening after Thunderbird auto updated from version 78 to 91 yesterday. With Thunderbird 78, CPU usage was >1% idle and minimized. With Thunderbird 91 idle and minimized it's constantly using 8-12% on an 8-core CPU.

Here's about a short performance profile: https://share.firefox.dev/3o2CHbp

I observe the same thing on 94 too.

Jim, Marek,
The original problem reported here is against version 78. So it is highly unlikely to be a good match to your issue.
If you can reproduce this after Help > Troubleshoot mode, then please make a new bug report.
If it doesn't reproduce in troubleshoot mode look for a language pack installed in addons
