User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:88.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/88.0
Steps to reproduce:
Use ctrl+shift+s to take a screenshot (e.g. goole.com) and try to save it into a folder that is managed by dropbox.
I've attached a capture (via sysinternal Process Monitor) of the operations performed by both firefox and dropbox during the save operation.
Actual results:
The download of the screenshot fails leaving a 0-byte file on the file system.
Expected results:
The screenshot should have been saved successfully.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::File Handling' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Thanks for the detailed report. The bot is not quite right, this is probably to do with the screenshots component in the first instance.
We did have a similar problem with downloads more generally in the past, which I fixed in bug 1652296. The discussion/history there may help here (though the ProcMon snapshot hopefully also will provide some clarity - thank you!).
One more thing: do you know if this is a regression, ie did it use to work and did it break with Firefox 88 or another more recent version? If so, it would be helpful to know when things stopped working...

I've observed this issue for a longer time (probably at least a year) and now made the bug report, when it finally occurred to me that it was due to the interaction with dropbox.

Hi,
I tried reproducing this on Windows 10, in Nightly 90.0a1 (2021-05-19) (64-bit) and Release 88.0.1 (64-bit), and I am not able to replicate on my end.
Let me know if I'm missing any steps , in order for me to be able to reproduce
I did the following
1- Used ctrl+shift+s to take a screenshot
2- Tried to save it into a folder that is managed by dropbox
3- Actually, file was correctly saved in Dropbox folder.
Could you answer the following questions in order to further investigate this issue?
-
Does this issue happen with a new profile? Here is a link on how to create a new profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles
Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode. You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode. -
Does this issue occur in the latest nightly version of firefox? Here is a link from where you can download it: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/
-
Are you using any addons? If so, please list them. Please, can you go to Help -> More Troubleshooting Information and copy at least the "Add-ons" information into an attachment here?
Also, @Gijs , let me know if we should mark this as duplicate for https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1652296?
Thanks in advance,
Jerónimo.

(In reply to Jerónimo Torti from comment #4)
Also, @Gijs , let me know if we should mark this as duplicate for https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1652296?
It's definitely not a duplicate - that bug was fixed months ago, and this is a report against a much newer version of Firefox with a different feature.
Hi,
I'm marking this as Resolved-Incomplete due to lack of response. If the issue is still reproducible with the latest Firefox version, feel free to reopen the bug, regarding comment #4 requests.
Regards,
Jerónimo.
