The standard - non-broadband - pages launch real player fine but the broadband page just prompts to download the appropriate plug-in. Seems to be an evangelism issue rather than than a real-plugin prob. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Launch URL 2. Click on link alongside BBC logo Actual Results: Plug-in prompt displays rather than real media clip Expected Results: Display the real media clip in real player - presumably within the screen rather than as a separate window
Should, perhaps, have added that it works fine in IE6
apparently, you need an IP from UK to get to this page ! I got a denial page telling me that I had to be a UK citizen to access their services !!!
Denial message: The BBC broadband service is currently only available to UK residents who have a broadband connection with one of the following providers: Freeserve (www.freeserve.co.uk/broadband/news) Blueyonder (www.broadband.blueyonder.co.uk) AOL (AOL broadband portal) ntl (www.ntlworld.com/bbc) BT Broadband (www.bt.com/btbroadbandstart) BT Openworld (www.btopenworld.co.uk) Tiscali (www.tiscali.co.uk) One.Tel (www.onetel.net) The BBC intends to expand this list to include as many UK broadband service providers as possible. Please check availability with your broadband service provider. Contact page is <http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback/>.

Summary: Real Plug-In not loading in page → news.bbc.co.uk - denied to non-UK, non-broadband users
When simply visiting the link and selecting, "Yes, I Am In UK", the page displays a dimininshed set of top links, however no content is provided. Choosing "No, I Am In UK", loads page normally, albiet the need for a java plugin. Apparently, an evangelism issue.
A new post to this bug has reminded me to add an update. Mozilla 1.2.1 handles the code on the BBCi broadband pages fine so whatever was wrong was fixed after posting the bug - either at the BBC end or in the revisions to Mozilla. Andrew
