Selective history delete is exceedingly slow

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0
Steps to reproduce:
Open history, search for particular site (eg, google.com), select all results, press delete.
Actual results:
I literally drank a cup of coffee while waiting for the delete to finish. Firefox was otherwise useless during this time as history operations seem to run on the main thread(?)
Expected results:
On a new, high end Thinkpad it took approximately 1 sec to return that there were 10,777 results for google.com. The delete started at 08:39:00. It finished at 09:05:34
It should not take 26+ minutes to delete those items from the history, even on low end equipment let alone recent top end lap/desktops.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Bookmarks & History' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hi,
I wasn't able to reproduce your issue on Firefox 88.0.1 or Firefox Nightly 90.0a1
Could you check if it occurs to you on a new profile? (you will not lose your old profile) Here is a link that can help you with that:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles#w_start-the-profile-manager-when-firefox-is-closed
Maybe you could browser around for a day or just import browsing history from another browser so you don't have to "gather" history, and check if the amount of history has any effect on the time it takes to delete an entry from the history.
Thanks!

This is a known issue with large amounts of history - bug 734643 - some improvements have been made recently, and we're hoping to make more soon.
