Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:88.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/88.0

Steps to reproduce:

I opened a link on an older computer. Not my email computer.

Actual results:

The link opened Thunderbird, which downloaded my emails. Now I'm trying to figure oit how to get them to my email computer.

Expected results:

The link shouldn't do that. Either give a warning before opening Thunderbird, or give an option to stop it before it can download my emails.

A quick search for app, link, and email in preferences doesn't show any relevant settings.

This is controlled by the setting in about:preferences under General > Applications > mailto

about:preferences > General does not show Applications.

A search in about:preferences > General for Applications does not show mailto.

A search in about:preferences > General for mailto does not show mailto.

A search in about:preferences > General > Applications for mailto does work, but it's not very discoverable.

about:preferences requires about:config fixes such as layout.frame_rate 1 to scroll without migraines from the sidebar, and that isn't very discoverable either.

Summary: Firefox can open Thunderbird without warning → Firefox settings for when to open other applications are not very discoverable
