There should be a type of customised bug report which is similar to query, but which categorises bugs together like the bug counts do. There would be totals for each group, and you could put lots of nested categorisations. For example: Assignee: matty@chariot.net.au (5 bugs) Product: TestProduct1 (3 bugs) ... Bug Here ... Product: TestProduct2 (2 bugs) ... Bug Here ... Assignee: joe@bloggs.com (2 bugs) Product: TestProduct1 (2 bugs) ... Bug Here ... Total: 7 bugs Where the field is multi-valued, the sum of the totals for each subcategorisation could be greater than the total for the categorisation. Also, at each level you can define the sort order and also that at most X subcategories/bugs appear within the category.

The report.cgi stuff I've been writing is fairly heavily tied to bug counts. This sort of report looks to me like it would be best implemented as a template for buglist.cgi - instead of printing a list, it sorted the bugs by Category 1, sub-sorted by Category 2, and then printed with indentation. The UI could be: "Group this list" at the bottom of the buglist, which gave you some dropdowns of items that you might want to group on, then resubmitted to buglist.cgi but with a format parameter so you got the indented form. I am assigning all the bugs I am not working on in the immediate future to nobody@bugzilla.org. This means: - I will be able to search for bugs assigned to me as a list of bugs I'm going to fix (which is as it should be), and - people won't falsely assume I might be about to fix a bug when I'm not.
