In RH Linux 7.3, installing mozilla 1.2a build 2002091016 with flash, java, and
bannerblind.
after installing as root (it shows ok there), i log as my user name, fire up
mozilla and it loaded without the menu toolbar, and the little toolbar at the
bottom with the rest of the applciations (such as email, etc). the application
won't respond to keyboard shortcuts either

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.installed as root
2.logged off, logged on as user
3.ran mozilla

Actual Results:
what's written in the details
Did you run at least once as root?
yes, i ran at root, now it's even worst, i deleted the 1.2a installation and
installed 1.1 and i have the same result. i deleted also ~/.mozilla but i have
the same result...
Very slightly older bug 171524 looks like the same problem, but this one has a
better description ...
ok, after deleting ~/.mozilla, the mozilla install directory and all the other
.mozilla's (in root and in other users) and re-installing mozilla 1.2a without
any plugin or add on i managed to get a working version.
i made some tests, i installed the fash plug in and it was ok, then the java
plugin and it was ok, then the latest version from bannerblind (from
www.mozilla.org/start/1.0 from there to add-on, etc) and then it got screwed up.
i deleted everything again and after a fresh install i added ONLY bannerblind
and it screwed up right away.
now, this only happens when i run mozilla as a user, if i run it as root it
doesn't matter what i add or do it\ll run ok
Summary: after installing version 1.2a GUI is cripple and won't respond to keyboard shortcuts → after installing version 1.2a GUI is cripple and won't respond to keyboard shortcuts [bannerblind xpi problem ?]

after looking at Uri's comment, here's what I did:

Complete uninstall of Mozilla 1.2b
nixed .mozilla in all home directories

nixed /usr/local/mozilla

the mozilla-installer subdirectory was within /usr/local/mozilla

had a time with nautilus, and ended up using Konqueror to download Mozilla 1.1

logged on as me, not root

did an SU, then did the full install of 1.1

after default browser invocation, installed BannerBlind right then.
Installed successfully

successive calls to Mozilla have bannerblind enabled.

haven't fully rebooted yet to see if it sticks, though.

FYI. I am not sure that this will work with 1.2a or 1.2b, but it seems to work
(so far) for 1.1

Kyle
From my last posting, it is confirmed that this bug hangs around after a reboot.
However,
if, in a shell, I su, and then invoke Mozilla, I get all of the stuff I set up
after the "first" install.

Wondering if I should chmod the root directory and the .mozilla subdirectory
I am the only one who uses this laptop anyway.

Before, on 1.0 when I had a problem installing BannerBlind, I was able to Chmod
some directory so that I had rw privileges to it, and it worked fine.

I upgraded to 1.2 not only because the home page instructed me to do so (;-) but
also because of the yahoo games feature (not sure what bug # that was.)

I will play around with it in my spare time and let you know what I find out.

But, the bottom line is it has to be privileges somewhere along the line.

Kyle
Bug hasn't been touched in 4 months. Resolving WFM. If you still experience this
with mozilla 1.4b or the upcoming release candidates, you can reopen this bug.
