User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0
Steps to reproduce:
OS: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Firefox was previously using
Compositing: Basic
Following update to 88/89 - it has changed to
Compositing: WebRender
Some Images are corrupt on webpages, eg the favicon for "https://emperorpaint.co.uk/"
Created new user account and verified issue exists (so not firefox profile)
No changes made to system
Strangely though - on the live USB stick (firefox 85) - there is no issue, even following upgrade to firefox 89 ..!?
Setting
gfx.webrender.force-disabled == true
is a workaround (as is disabling hardware acceleration)
Actual results:
Random images are corrupted (titlebar, favicons, jpegs in page, text input bar)
Expected results:
All was fine with previous compositor
Even text in the about:support page is corrupt when viewed with WebRender enabled

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Graphics: WebRender' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Figured it out - its the 5.8 kernel - and a reverting to the 5.4 kernel removes the issue.
This explains why the issue wasn't experienced on the live USB too (it had the 5.4 kernel) - upon ubuntu install it installed the 5.8 kernel.
