Steps to reproduce:

Selected the white theme after installing 89.0

Actual results:

A gray box appear on top of every page. It seems like a bug in the rendering itself and not related to the html of the actual page. Also it cuts through everything. For instance, it cuts the firefox logo on the firefox home screen. The box goes from side to side and has a constant height of about 300px.

Maybe it's related, but it seems that when i open devtools and it lands on the Inspector tab, I see html the first time around. But then i switch to any other tab and then back to Inspector, the box that is supposed to contain html it blank. I can repeat the behavior in the same session, by re-opening devtools.

Expected results:

I should the visuals the page was supposed to render

Hey troels,
I tried reproducing this issue on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 91.0a1 (2021-06-16), beta 90.0b8 or release 89.0.1 but I don't encounter a gray box anywhere.

Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Also a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .

Hi Andrei,

Thanks for taking the time!

TIL Firefox has safe mode. When I run in safe mode, the issue goes away and FF behaves as I would expect, no gray box. That includes the DevTools Inspector part.

What I did was to remove all extensions, set theme to System theme (assuming it's the most default), only plugins are OpenH264 and Googles content decryption and disabling all language packs. Pretty much removing anything that might cause the bug.

After that I restarted and the issue is still there!

I have never created a profile, so I assume that's not a possible source of error.

The Nightly build does not exhibit the error.

Another curious case where the top menu lies on top of the gray box. this top menu uses position fixed with top: 0, which seems to ignore the box when rendering.
