Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0
Steps to reproduce:
- Go to www.wunderground.com.
- Scroll down and click on one of the new stories
- Start a news story video.
- Click on the "full screen" icon in the lower right of the video.
- Hit ESC to return the video to partial-screen.
Actual results:
The ESC is ignored and the video remains playing at full-screen size.
I am not able to get out of the video, so I have to hit ctrl+w to dismiss the tab.
If I then go to www.wunderground.com and click on any news story and start the video, it plays at full-screen and I'm unable to go anywhere else in the site. The only recourse is to close the tab.
If I restart FF and go to the site again, the video plays at part-screen.
Expected results:
Hitting ESC should return the video to part-screen.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Audio/Video: Playback' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

I wasn't able to reproduce the behavior on macOS Big Sur 11.4 (20F71) Firefox 91.0a1 (2021-06-11). Can you reproduce this on the current release version (89)? If so, can you also reproduce it when starting the Firefox (either version) in troubleshooting mode? That will help rule out problems related to your profile or any add-ons.

I did not see this issue in the release version of FF before I installed Nightly, and it does not show up on Nightly when in troubleshooting mode. I also now notice that there is no audio with the video, even though I can get system sounds OK, and the audio slider on the video is at max.

Some of the videos I watch on he website allow you to go to picture-in-picture mode, but the only video control visible is the time slider bar along the bottom of the screen (no audio or fill-screen controls appear). I'm going to have to look at this to see if I can detect a pattern.
Spacebar doesn't seem to work to play/pause video either.

I was finally able to figure out what is happening.
When watching the video and being unable to change from fullscreen mode, I noticed that the FF menus were visble at the top of the screen. I pressed F11 to go to firefox full-screen mode, and the controls for the video appeared as normal. When I clicked on the two arrows to toggle full-screen mode and standard view mode of the video, I noticed that the standard view was slightly smaller than the full screen view, almost as large, but not quite. In the standard mode, I am able to scroll to the rest of the website.
The problem partially ended up being a zoom issue. I had at one point zoomed the web page so that the text was rather large. When I zoomed the page for a more reasonable text sizre, the non-fullscreen videos resumed their no4rmal size and placement.
At the reduced zoom level, ESC and spacebar work as expected, and the video controls show up as expected at the bottom of the video.
Not sure why I'm not getting audio, but this is an issue I've seen occasionally on this site, so it may are may not be related to FF. I'll keep you posted on this.

By default, the picture-in-picture button appears for videos that report a duration greater than 45s. You can adjust that by changing the value of media.videocontrols.picture-in-picture.video-toggle.always-show and/or media.videocontrols.picture-in-picture.video-toggle.min-video-secs in about:config.
Spacebar doesn't seem to work to play/pause video either.
This works for me as long as the video has input focus. If there is a specific video or videos this isn't working with, can you provide a link?
Right now, it sounds like this isn't an actionable A/V: Playback issue for Firefox, so I'm going to close this bug, but if that changes in the future, we're happy to reopen or you can file a separate issue if this isn't related to A/V: Playback.

The audio problem in FireFox Nightly has been solved.
Somehow the per-app audio level for FireFox Nightly had been set to 0% in Windows 10. How it got that way, I have no idea.
