User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0

Steps to reproduce:

Tab creation via Middle Click on a set of links differs from CTRL+Click on the same set of links.

If I open my home page (Firefox Home) and I Middle Click through all of my pinned links, the tabs open, but after the first click the tabs stack to the left of the previously opened tab.
However, If I CTRL+Click through the same set of pinned links the tabs open to the right of the previously opened tab (mimicking the expected behavior of other browsers)

Actual results:

Clicking through a set of multiple links cause tabs to stack to the left of each other.

Expected results:

Tabs should stack to the right of each subsequently created tab when clicking multiple links.

I'm not entirely sure I fully understand the issue here, middle click does the same thing ctrl+click does for me, it opens a new tab on the right side of the tab I'm clicking the link from.

If you have two tabs open, and you middle click/ctrl+click a link from the first tab, the link opens in a tab between the two originally open tabs.

Please check if the left-stack also happens in troubleshoot mode, here is a link that can help you with that:

Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to look at this.

I just wanted to show you what I meant with the attached screen captures.

However, it appears the functionality is correct with Troubleshooting Mode enabled. Therefore it would have to be some extension I'm using that is altering the middle click behavior.

It's actually Facebook Container that is causing the tab issue. Perhaps it's because the items being clicked are Facebook related? (ie Facebook, Instagram).

Once FB Container is disabled, middle click functionality returns to expected behavior.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Tabbed Browser' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Tabbed Browser

I was able to reproduce this issue after installing the Facebook Container Addon, Ctrl + Left Mouse click will open all new tabs to the right, while Mousewheel click will keep the Facebook page to far right while opening everything else between the current tab and the Facebook tab.

I also tried older builds where the Facebook container could be installed like Firefox 82 and the issue occurs there as well.

We could also move this to the Web Extensions > Developer outreach component if the current component is not the correct one.
