User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/91.0.4472.124 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
if I am viewing Thunderbird with the display = ALL folders them I see a complete list of what is actually in my local folder listings.
If I go to UNIFIED view which is what I use most of the time many of the local folders disappear and only a few are showing, change back to ALL folders and everything is okay again
Actual results:
many folders go missing from the display in local folders. Please see the screenshot
Expected results:
I would expect that the local folders or display correctly in either the normal view or the unified view
just to add to the problem. Much of the information I am reading tells me that the MSF files may be corrupt so I have deleted all of these MSF files in the local folders and it rebuilds them again but the problem stays exactly the same in unified view many of the local folders simply disappear, go back to the ALL view and they are back again
just a follow-up, completely removed Thunderbird from my computer, removed it from the registry and reinstalled version 78.14.0 64-bit (previously I was running 32-bit Thunderbird) reinstalled the program, imported all of the messages back in the problem still remains.
Went and installed Thunderbird on a different computer, imported the messages and the problem remains so it is either something in my data causing the problem or the program has an issue when viewing folders in unified view where it corrupts the local folder display settings

Did you ask for help in the Support Forum ? If yes, then please post a link to the question.
Via Support Forum - I usually advise the following for issues in the 'Unified' folder.
Please perform a test:
In Thunderbird
Set 'View' > Folders' > 'All
'Help' > 'More Troubleshooting Information'
Under 'Application Basics' - 'Profile Folder' - click on 'Open Folder' button
a new window opens showing contents of your 'profile name' folder.
Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.
Locate and delete this file : virtualfolders.dat
click on 'Mail' folder
delete the 'smart mailboxes' folder
Start Thunderbird
Set View > Folders > Unified
Report on results.
thank you very much for the follow-up to my problem.
I confirm that I have done this task previously after finding it on the Internet but I have just done it again and I confirm everything stays the same.
The local folders remain hidden in the unified view but visible in the all view ?
Have you restarted in "troubleshoot mode" (who thinks up these grammatical nightmares) from the help menu?
Hello, I have tried this for the first time today and it makes no difference, everything displays the same. Thank you however for your comment because it was not something I had previously tried.

Michael, do you still see this problem when using version 102?
Hi Michael - I have had another closer look at the image you supplied and I noticed the folder icons for all the 'missing' folders have been set up as default 'Archive' folders for various mail accounts. So I believe they would be considered as an accounts' Unified folder and not an ordinary folder created in Local Folders mail account.
I suggest you look further up the Folder Pane for the 'Archives' folder as you may discover in Unified view, it is the 'Archives' folder that now contains all those emails and if expanded will show all the various 'missing' folders.
Please check this out and report back.

Hello again, you are correct, they are showing up in the archives folder for reasons that I don't understand but at least I can see them without needing to change of use backwards and forwards. Thank you Michael

Hello again, you are correct, they are showing up in the archives folder for reasons that I don't understand but at least I can see them without needing to change of use backwards and forwards. Thank you Michael
These folders are default folders for any account: Inbox, Drafts, Templates, Sent, Archives, Junk, Deleted.
In a Unified view, those folders from all accounts (including 'Local Folders' ) get grouped under a Unified folder of same name.
For various mail accounts, you have set up a specific folder (one you created in 'Local Folders' ) as the designated 'Archive' folder for a specific account. Those folders will not have a normal folder icon; they have the 'archives' folder icon, so you know it is set up as an archive folder. The folder does not have to be called Archives, it just needs to be selected as the archive folder. It means when you choose to 'archive' an email it gets put into the folder you have set up as the Archive folder.
Hence those folders show up in the 'Archives' folder in Unified view, but show up in 'Local Folders' when you use the normal 'All' view.
This is not a bug. You will be pleased to hear that Thunderbird is working correctly.

If this was determined to be working as designed, including cases of user misunderstanding, we tend to use WORKSFORME rather than INVALID.
