Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0

Steps to reproduce:

I setup new calendars, after providing “aegee.org” as location without providing user name. Thunderbird 90beta3 does find and utilize some calendars during the setup.

For me it is unclear, once on the server new calendars are added, how is supposed TB to update the list of subscribed calendar. In particular, how shall the user trigger manual rediscory of the calendars, based on the bootstrap URL?

How shall TB trigger this refresh on calendars periodically, without user interaction?

Is the current procedure to remove manually all calendars and repeat the setup procedure?

If the calendar has been set to sync, we should be prompting for login. Is that not working for you?

If that is working (or not) what other things are you expecting - are there any missing user affordances?

Summary: Refresh Calendar List → How to Refresh Calendar List

I mean, when the account is setup in Thunderbird, TB has obtaiend the current-user-principal, the calendar-home-sets of the user and the calendars in each homeset. Imagine at a later moment on the server appears a new calendar, or a new calendar-home-set is made available to that user.

This new calendar shall appear in Thunderbird, usinga simple procedure, like a button “Re-discover calendars”.

Likewise when some calendars are removed from the server, there shall be a procedure in Thunderbird to remove all calendars locally, which were removed from the server.

Compare to imap: when on the server an imap directory is created or deleted for an exisng TB account, TB users just synchronize and get updated list of imap folders. There is no such “Synchronize List of available calendars” - operation in Thunderbird.

Not currently supported but eventually you'll be able to reopen the account creation selection interface.

If you want to add calendars, you can go to (right click on calendar list) "New Calendar" -> "On the Network" -> type in the email address of the account into the "Username" field -> "Find Calendars".

Calendars can be removed from Thunderbird by right clicking them and selecting "Unsubscribe Calendar". There is no intent to make calendars disappear automatically when removed on the server side, even if this is possible without causing problems("Why did my calendar disappear because the server was temporarily 404ing?") it would seem like a bug to most users.

Calendars and IMAP are not intended to function the same way and don't use the same specs or protocols.
