Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0

Steps to reproduce:

I tried to open a local HTML file (in my /home linux directory) with Firefox 90.

Actual results:

The local HTML file does not open (an error screen appears instead "file not found"). Hereby it does'nt matter whether opening by drag'n'drop or by right click on the file. I tried to reduce the security level in the privacy section of the settings. I also tried to set the sandbox level in "about:config" to 2, 1 and fimally 0. When I open the HTML file per right click, Firefox comes up with a very weird path like "/run/user/1000/.../" and shows only the HTML file without css and js.

Developers of Firefox: Why do you make the life artificially difficult? I know you want to secure the browser. But this seems to me like a car builder that artificially keeps the breaks on during a drive so that the car won't get too fast and the passengers won't get seriously injured in case of an accident. Do you really want to drive such a car??? Men!

Expected results:

As Firefox 89 did, also Firefox 90 should be able to open local HTML file and display them correctly.

Hi maaaddog,
I have tried to reproduce the issue on Ubuntu 20 and Windows 10, on Firefox Nightly 90.0a2 (2021-05-13) (64-bit) version and Release 90.0.2 (64-bit) versions. Error message did not appear when attempting to reproduce the issue.
Could you answer the following questions in order to further investigate this issue?

  1. Does this issue happen with a new profile? Here is a link on how to create a new profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles

Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode. You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode.

  1. Does this issue occur in the latest nightly version of firefox? Here is a link from where you can download it: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/

If you are still able to reproduce it, please, share further information with us, like screenshots, screen recording, or more specific steps.

I've assigned a component in order to get the dev team involved.
'Core - Dom: HTML Parser' team: if the component is not relevant please change it to a more appropriate one.

Regards,
Jerónimo.

Component: Untriaged → DOM: HTML Parser
Flags: needinfo?(maaaddog)
Product: Firefox → Core

I can't reproduce this on Release 96 and Nightly 98.
Also, as we haven't heard back from Reporter for a long while, we're unable to make this actionable. Going to close as INCOMPLETE.
