Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:90.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/90.0

Steps to reproduce:

Spent extended time on Facebook on an HP laptop with Win10, opening and closing multiple tabs in groups where I'm a member or an admin, pages, and personal pages. Particularly happens if I've been on for a while and then open a half dozen or more tabs at a time before reading through group posts.

Actual results:

Images don't load. I often get colored backgrounds and alt text although some images just remain blank. Several times, some loaded but not all. This has included profile pictures, cover photos, and post images as well as thumbnails of posters and commenters. I've tried cache-clearing and page reloading with limited- to no-improvement. Closing the browser usually helps but I've had a couple instances where it took multiple closings and reopenings before the situation resolved. This has only begun in the past week or two but I don't know if it came along with 90.0.2 or not.

Expected results:

I should have seen the images as the tabs loaded.

Component: Untriaged → Tabbed Browser

This sounds like a memory issue. Facebook is a harsh RAM-consuming website, especially if more tabs are opened/closed. Reproduction of your description sounds pretty complex. Can you help us with some investigation into its cause?

I'm thinking that a performance report might help developers determine the cause of your specific problem easily.
How to do one:

  1. Load https://profiler.firefox.com/
  2. Click the "Enable Firefox Profiler Menu" button.
Note: Now you have this little extension set-up; An addon button is placed in the menu bar, at the left of the hamburger menu button.
  3. When Facebook starts acting up again, just push that button to "record a performance profile".
  4. Reproduce the behavior you described originally; move around the facebook tabs for a while when the issue reproduces.
  5. Before the browser crashing or freezing beyond use, click the button again "capture the recorded profile"
Note: This will cause to open a new tab with the recorded profile.
  6. The next thing you need to do is click the "Upload Local Profile", select all the checkboxes on the displayed door-hanger/pop-up modal and click the "Upload" button.
  7. Then copy the "permalink" displayed in the place of the previously displayed "Upload local profile" button and share with us in this bug.

I sincerely hope this is not too complicated to perform and expect a response from you. Let me know if more information is required.
Thank you for your contribution!

QA Whiteboard: QA-not-reproducible

We could not reproduce and haven't heard about this issue at all.
I'll assume this is rather a specific issue and we don't have enough information to address it.

Please reopen when addressing the request in comment 2. Thank you!
